BYC Race Team
The STP Racing Program provides a team environment for the most advanced sailors to build their sailing skills and provide support for competition in NBYA regattas. Students enrolling for either the 420 or the Optimist Racing teams are expected to commit to an entire summer worth of sailing. A full summer commitment is essential in order to foster continuous long-term improvement. Both teams will compete in NBYA events, and the 420 team will have a particular emphasis on team racing events.
POLICY: Bring Your Own BOAT “BYOB” Policy for Opti Race:
Students in the Opti Race program must supply their own Optimist and rigging for use in daily instruction and regattas. This policy is consistent with the practices of many clubs and sailing schools in the region and has been successfully instituted during recent years at BYC. The “BYO boat” policy has led to an increased respect and accountability for the fleet amongst students. Also, racers have been much more successful experimenting with fine-tuning adjustments to their rigging when they maintain the same equipment over the course of the season. Students may store their boat on a dolly in the designated portion of the BYC parking lot or on a rack on the dock.
